Default 1964 1/2

Hey all, Yesterday I bought my first classic mustang, its a 1964 1/2 with a straight six in it, The car needs to be completely restored the plus side is I got it for $300 bucks. But what my question was is where can I find a rebuild "kit" for the engine. It currently runs but since im going to be restoring the whole car I'd like to start out fresh with a new engine and tranny.

If you plan to keep the six www.fordsix.com might be able to help, if you plan to go v8 start saving for loads of new parts. Good luck with your project and post some pics!! and congrats on your purchase.

Fordsix will help you out a lot. If the engine still runs though I would assume it won't be that hard to restore and keep it. If it were a '65 I might recommend getting a new engine but there's a lot to be desired in an all original 64 1/2. Post some pics as soon as you can

I think you will find that the original 170 CI 6 banger that came in the 64's is pretty weak. Consider the 200 or maybe even the 250. Those guys at FordSix will tell you all about it. Also, if you haven't perused the FAQ section at the top, look up there for a bible of information to help you restore it.

I won't have pics till late this week (We still have to trailor it home) we paid the man and transfered the title so its taken care of but our friend has a trailor to carry it home and he isnt free till after thursday
As for the car itself... I know for a fact I have to replace...

both front fenders
right floor pan
new bumpers
whole interior
radiator
grill
lights
brakes
tye rods

But responding to what Soaring said Im really not into this restore to make it fast etc. I simply want a classic thats completely original.

What Soaring suggested really won't make your car fast...not even close. He was just suggesting one of the larger i6's because you'll have a hard time even getting up hills with the 170ci.
