Default Rust Repair Ideas

Ok, I pulled the windshield out and started grinding out the worst rust spot that I've found so far. Problem is, I don't know how to go about dealing with it. I had an idea to use 20 guage sheet metal, mold it to fit, wirefeed it in place, grind it smooth then take out the dips with bondo. But after looking at it, I don't know if my metal working skills are that good. lol

I'm almost thinking that a trip to the autobody shop is in order on this one. Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks.

Pictures would help. The windshield area can be tough to repair.

Considering that is rather extensive and at a key intersection point that adds strength to the car, that can be a tricky area to patch. If you know someone with a parts car you could take the whole a pillar and part of the roof to peice it together into yours

tough spot to do it. Compund curves and the windsheild channel needs to be really close if not spot on. no leaks and a good weld without the warpage of a continous bead. I would recomend taking it to a shop that will put metal back in the hole. Some will just slap bondo or fiberglass in there, dont do that.

Fixing that for me would take 8-16 hours of work to get it right. And its tough to get flat again since the bracing is under it preventing a dolly from being employed, a spoon dolly might work, but getting the welds flat is gonna be a pain, and that s putting it mildly

Are you sure that cancer doesn't go behind the windshield lip?
Looks like you ground down into the lead solder as well. If you do it yourself your likely to melt the lead too. Keep that in mind if you decide to tackle this.
