Default Kinds of Car Paint...Primers...

okay what is the best type of car paint system out there....i dont mean like brands or anything at this point...just like...i know theres BC/CC and single stage or whatever...is single stage that bad?

also, im assuming some kind of BC/CC is the best...so would roughing up orignal paint, finishing body work, then sandable primer and guide coat with blocking it out....then spot putty the imperfections...then sandable primer again guide coat and block out again until its all good....then sealer/epoxy primer, then base coats and then clear coats...is thats generally the right chain of events?

is this combo below wrong in any way? im looking at the PDF data sheet for the primer and it say it only needs the hardener...is it decent for a inexpensive non-pro paint job...?
Primer - http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/pr...?product=50200
Hardener - http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/pr...?product=50199

id like to get the primer for my car at Sherwin-Williams.

any info would be nice...thanks

SW is a decent brand of paint. It is also sold at NAPA stores as Martin Senior, same stuff in the cans, just different labels. There is a really excellent forum about autopainting at http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?index . Your questions makes me think you should do more research before starting your painting. Your statement about using spot puddy after block sanding gives me concern. I suggest you go to the Basics of Basics section http://www.autobodystore.com/bofb.htm and study.

Single stage paints are fine for solid colors. The real advantage of BC/CC is with metalic and other trick paints.

Please, whatever you do, learn how to SAFELY apply the paints. You will be dealing with some really nasty chemicals!!!

Hope this helps.

well what i am doing right now is researching more...im just exploring the possibility of doing it myself...not really set on that or anything....i mean how else do i find out than to ask...

ive been reading that other message board plus hottrodders forum too....when i said spot putty i mean like the two part Evercoat stuff....its essentially just really thin body filler...its not bondo crap that looks like red tooth paste....ive read a lot of paint articles that have used it for very minor imperfections....

am i allowed to use epoxy primer from the same "paint system" over the sandable primer as a final-final or should i just use the sealer i posted and have that be the final-final....
