Default Gas tank

I need a new gas tank. It was full of rust 17 years ago when I got her. Its real bad now and now is the time to get a new tank. I can get one with a drain plug or with out. I'm thinking that I should get one with the drain plug. I can get a kit for the gas tank that has other stuff with it for the gas tank (sending unit, The neck, and other things). What stuff should I get? I got a 1966.

Definatly get the one with the drain. It will make your life much easier. May as well get the kit also, after all it's been subject to the rust bug as long as the tank has. Good luck.

Is the gas tank hard to replace?

It shouldn't be too hard, needs removing from the top and then need to get under the car to drain the gas. Also remove the fuel gauge sender wire and then pull it right out through the top.

I am about to replace mine aswell but I want something alot safer so I had to through down a load of cash but my new Pro Full cell is coming in. Also not sure what kind of back is going in yours but a real good idea is to look into a Rear Seat To trunk Divider (Fire stopper class). Don't want to see any fine people getting hurt.

well if you want a more affordable, non-racing, option: just order the reproduction one. to remove it, all u hafta do is drain it, remove the wire on the sending unit, undue all the bolts, and take the neck off the tank. then its better to have two people, one to push up on the tank and another to grab it while its off the car. not sure thats the best way but it worked quick for me. the neck is something that is pretty hard to change out though, just to warn you.
