Default distributor question

My new 347 stroker is a 95 roller motor. Can I use my distributor from my 68 302? I have a pertronix module in there now. I'm pretty sure I can but I think the gear has to be changed to be compatible with the roller cam. I have seen the brass and plastic gears, does anyone know?

Also, if I decide to order a MSD distributor, do I order a 95? If I do will it be set up for the 95 mustang's computer?

depends on what roller cam you have as to what gear you need on the distributor. If I remember right, the Ford cams like the stock ones, and the 303 series cams have an iron gear on them so you can use a stock gear. Some have a cast iron gear on them, some dont for other cams. If its all billet steel like the Comp Cams solid roller in my 467, then you need a bronze or the plastic gear. The distributor should fit no problem, other than the gear possiblity.

Thanks Thumpin, it's a Lunati cam. I looked on Summit thinking they would recommend what type of gear but they suggested the possibility of needing a different one.

Lunati may be the ones to ask. MSD may also know if you're looking to buy one of their dizzies.

My MSD distributors have a slightly larger shaft than the stock ones do, at least on my Pontiacs. If you need to change the gear, shaft diameter is something I would highly recomend you check on. I dont know if they use the stock Ford size or they did the same thing so only the gears they have will fit.
