well i fig since i am getting heads i might aswell get a cam too but i have no clue what to look for al i know it that too much duration equals rough idle and short is dur is for blowers

Brandon do you have a 289/302? I cant remember everything you have already. Do you have headers? What intake and head will you be using?

A mild cam like a Comp XE268 will give a moderate lope and a nice power increase. Just stay under 220 degrees duration at .050 lift and the cam will work great. Something in the range of 214-220 is what you are looking for.

The XE cams have faster opening lobe ramps, so they act a bit differently for the size compard to an old school style lobe.

Now if you have a larger head, like a Victor Jr or the AFRs over 200cc runners, then a bit more cam will be needed and complimentary. You will however need more stall and a bit more gear if you go with the larger heads and cam.

I have a 302 with Windsor heads and picked up a Lunati cam/lifter kit from Summit. .223 duration at .50. Very good compared to the comp racing cam in there now. Hoping it will help me get better than 8mpg, but then I have to keep my foot out of it...HA

if you can i would recomennd a comp cams kit summit has one, i believe .218 duration with .456 lift cam, correct lifters timing chain and valve springs for 350$...if your going for a more streetable engine and not building just a monster a kit is very cost effective and imo the way to go...
