Default Shift Linkage

Ok, well the guy I bought my stang from swaped the old 6 cyl/manual trans setup out for a 8 cyl/automatic setup the first auto he had in the car was a C4 but he changed it out again for another trans still an auto and the shifter is backwards... It still goes from park to all the gears but rather than park being up by the dash and pulling it towards you to put it in gear park is at the back and you have to push it forward.

I am not sure what trans is in the car now, but it is good, pulls good and shifts fine.

It's just a reverse shift valve body. Common in strip cars.

If you can remember it and make it work, more power to ya. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Thats cool. I just wondered if maybe he did not do something right or if there was a way to get it back to the way it should be.

Sounds like he has the shift linkage on the trans mounted bakwards. A reverse patern shifter still has park at the top and 3 at the bottom. A normal one has park at the top and 1 at the bottom.

Ok, so still it is not anything major. I just talked to a guy I know from my work and he said he swapped the motor and trans in some old car he had and the shifting was reveresed. he said he bought some kind of bracket that bolted on to make it right. I will just have to look when I get the car in the shop at my house.
