new drivetrain
I know this question has likley been asked before but i can't find it. I havea 67 mustang and i want to put a complete drivetrain from a newer mustang in it. I would appreciate it if anyone has any information on what years are good for the swap, or where i can find advice on how to do it.
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for any help.
Sorry, Its a 67 coupe that came with a 200 6 in it. I want to go to a v8 probably a 302 or a 5.0 but im not sure yet.I want an AOD. I want to upgrade the front and rear suspension and the rear end. I wanted to know about switching the entire drivetrain and suspension from a late 80's 5.0 or even a newer mustang. Im not sure if im going to go this way or should i go with aftermarket parts. I wanted to know what is involvedandwhat years are best for this swap. I want to find out before i put it back together or get it painted because Im guessing there is going to be some cutting and welding that has to be done. I hope this is more helpfull.
thanks again

Sounds like quite a big project there Mike. You're facing the primary question everyone faces who gets an old mustang.
As RModel said...those are the best years for transplanting a 5.0. Then you have to decide if you're wanting carburation or EFI. The typical recommendation is to find a donor car that already has the motor/transmission you want, and then use it for the installation. This will help with all the little nuts/bolts/brackets you'll need.
Suspension out of a later model is more difficult. Most people go with aftermarket there.
Sounds like a great project. Good luck.

There is more info in the FAQ about the I6 to V8 swap and what is required, there is also information about a 5.0 swap, since a few things are different like the oil pan for instance. Look through the FAQ and you will find a wealth of info in there.
Thanks for the info. If its that diffficult thenI guess I'll look more into aftermarket parts for the suspension. Are there any aftermarket parts that are better than the rest or do they all have there advantages. I checked out the FAQ section andI think I'll find aloot of my answers there.

I like these guys, and they will be providing the front ends for the cars I am working on right now. Prices are comparable with other places that sell quality stuff. For the stuff they dont have, look into the large vendors like Mustangs Unlimited, NPD, Paddock etc... They all have good stuff, and more often than not great service.
Opentracker is hardcore turning parts, but they sell street stuff too.
