Emblem Removal
I am progressing on the stripping of the paint from my car and have a question about removing emblems. When I took the emblems off the fender it looks as though there were simply plastic pins on the back that simply stuck in the hole. Anyway I ended up breaking a couple of the pins off and even broke one emblem.
Now I about to start the hood and want to take off the ford lettering on the front and these seem to be attached with 2 pins each as well.
Is there a special technique for removing ths stuff without breaking them or are they meant to be installed just once and therefore I should just rip them off and get new ones?
Thanks for the help.

If you use a small screwdriver and pry close to where the pins, alternating between pins so theycome out evenly, they should come off without much hassle. If you don't want to scratch the paint, put a rag behind the screwdriver.
Couple of things:
Old emblems usually detract from a new paint job, since they are relatively inexpensive I would replace. The new emblems usually come with new fasteners which is good as the original fasterers are usually not salvageable. You can buy the fasteners seperately if your going to reuse the original emblems.
Some repop emblems come with "improved" pin positions. Only problem is they do not fit the original holes, watchout.
The pins are actually cast along with the emblem, they are not plastic, but as you experienced are fragile.
On modern cars emblems are held on with double sided "tape" that is available at auto parts stores. You can cut off the pins and attach the emblems with this tape. It works very well. I did this on a couple of emblems that had "improved" pin positions. I used the pins that had the original alignment and cut off the out of aligned pins then applied the tape.
