I'm trying to drain the gear oil out of my stock 8" rear end. I have undone all the of bolts around the cover enough so the cover should crack open and let the old fluid drain out. But it ain't happenin. It makes me wonder if the fluid has ever been changed. I've tried everything from a BFH to an air chisel. Anymore suggestions? I don't know if it's a good idea to try heat since the gas tank and lines are so close.
There should be some washers on there that will help hold the rear in place. They are a royal PITA. Use a rubber mallet to start loosening the rear until you can get a large flat screwdriver in there and start working it out.
You can thread the washers off there as well.
Have fun!!!

You have to pull the axles out to get the 3rd member to drop.

Nope I haven't touched the axles. I had no clue I needed to. So even to just crack the case open a tiny bit I need to remove the axles? Will I have to remove all of my brake stuff to remove the axles? Thanks.
nope dont have to touch the brakes, just take the bolts loose theres a hole in the axel flange to get ot them
the axles dont have to come all the way out just a few inches
