Default Windshield washer system install

I am currently redoing my car and decided that I would install a washer system. I have a single speed wiper setup currently. I bought the Drake kit that has all the parts (except a new switch) and it is mostly self explanatory with one exception.

How/where do the squirters mount? Do they squirt up through the cowl? The best that I can tell you mount the hose right below the cowl on the firewall and then stick a little hose with the squirter up into the cowl while trying to line it up to shoot through the louvers.
This kinda seems....half-***.... the hoses and fittings are all exposed and it looks like a aftermarket amateur install. What am I missing? Or is this "just the way it looks"?

On my 67, that is just the way it looks. Everything under the hood is exposed and it shoots up through the cowl vents. There is a rubber gasket that goes along the top of the firewall that covers most of the washer pump plumbing.

Everything is exposed and routed around the inner driver's side fender to the firewall to the squirters.
