2 ton jack/lifting front end
Well that should be strong enough considering the mustang itself weighs less than 2 tons....
I'd jack it up on the frame rails or the frame piece where the radiator sits. Just my 0.02

engine cross member is always my choice, just watch your jack pad, cause if you miss or pop off that crossmember you are in for some big trouble!!!! Jack

I would use the frame rails to jack up the front end. If you are jacking up the entire front end, do one side and put it on a jackstand, then do the other side. You'll need to use jackstands anyway, as you shouldn't work under a car supported by a jack alone.
on Mustangs I use the piece where the strut rods connect to the frame rails. On the earlier ones the strut rods are under that piece and a cheap jack wont do the job without slipping. the crossbar under the engine will hold it okay too, but like mentioned above, dont let it slip onto the oil pan. they crush really easily.
Jackstands are a must, especially if you have a sears or walmart type jack. even with a high quality shop jack the jackstands will be under the car and supporting safely before I go anywhere near under it. i have too many things yet to do in life to have my chest/head/other body part crushed by a car.

Yea, you can ask my father about what its like to have a car fall on him, he was pulling a tranny on a 71 lincoln mark3 with a 460 in it, and was laying on his side under the middle of the car, it was up on ramps, and chocked, and when he pulled the tranny linkage off, the E brake popped and the car rolled over the chock and off the ramps on top of him, he says he doesnt remember actually getting out from under the car, and if you have ever seen one of those Lincolns, they sit pretty low, I just remember being a kid and coming up my driveway on my bike and seeing my father hunched over leaning against the house with a blanket over himsmoking a cigarette and laughing, while the EMTs were trying to get him on a stretcher. He came home from the hospital (thank god) with 7 broken ribs and a broken collar bone, and was out of work for months, the doctor said if he werent laying on his side, the car would have crushed his chest and killed him almost instantly, the doctor also said that he was in shock when I saw him, and he most likely somehow lifted the car enough for him to get out (must be that superhuman strength they talk about) anyway, the point of the story, is that you should always practice safety when using jacks, even if it is a super great top dollar jack, and even if you are only going to be under it for a minute, my father has been working on cars since he was about 10, he was about 40 when this happened, not even 30 years experience could save him when that car decided to come down on him, just the grace of God. Be safe we all have people that care about us, no shortcut is worth leaving family and friends behind.
