Default Problems...

Ooook where to start...

Bought a 65 289 vert couple weeks ago and it ran great driving it home. That same night it cut out and wouldn't start anymore. We took off the fuel line going from the fuel pump and the pump wasn't pushing any gasto the carb. We replaced the fuel pump and it still didnt turn over but it wasn't sounding better than the first time.

Could you only expect that the lines are clogged or the fuel sending unit in the tank is broken? Any other clues?

THanks

It sounds like you have a clog in the fuel line from the sendingunit to the fuel pump.

If your not getting fuel up to the carb, chances are good that you have a line plugged somewhere. The sending unit in the tank isnt like the ones on the newer vehicles today. It is just that......a fuel level sending unit, there is no pump to worry about. These old cars can build up rust int he tanks and it has only one place to go.....into the line to the engine. Try disconnecting the line at the tank and see if you get fuel out of the tank. If you do then the line is the problem. If you dont get fuel out of the tank, then the problem is probally in thefuel outlet ofthe tank. If the line is plugged, try some air pressure to blow it out, or you gan replace it to be ont he safe side.

I agree with Mustang Dad, I had that problem on one of the street rods I had been building, from sitting around, I didnt figure it out untill I changed the fuel pump (not fun on a chevy 350 in a 37 pontiac with giant front fenders) All I did was blow air into the line going to the tank from the fuel pump end, and it worked, whats funny is that it happened about 8 months later, again after sitting, so I blew it out then a few months later I changed the tank.
