Default 68 differential question

Ok please forgive me if this has been beat to death and I am a newb here and have been searching for a while for this answer.

My 68 is supposed to be a sprint model. I have the orginal sales paperwork to back this up. The original window sticker says 289 2bbl, ok check
deluxe interior-correct, tinted glass-nope, wide tires and styled steel wheels-probably replaced with oem years ago, and 3.00:1 lsd.

i was given this car from my father in law who bought it from his sister the original owner and i am thinking she was taken on a few things at the dealer. the tinted window, the steel wheels, it was supposed to have the upgraded suspension for that year but i have no idea of what to even look for on that. the fact that the convenience group isnt actually wired is also interesting. Not that it matters i cant find a fuel sender with a low fuel sensor anywhere.

the lsd is the thing i am most perplexed with
how can i tell without actually opening up the pumpkin

i know i can get it up in the air and spin the tires and an open wheel will behave one way and a lsd the other but i cant find the way they are supposed to behave.

on one the wheels spin opposite,
on the other the wheels spin the same way
which does what
thanks

The Ford limited slip diff used in the Mustangs wont always pass the test of lifting it and turning one wheel. Most often you need to apply torque to them to get them to function correctly. If the car currently runs and drives, there is a simple test you can do to see if it is a working locking diff. Get both tires wet, have an observer watch the tires from the rear of the car. Hold the brake and floor the gas to make the tires spin. If they both spin, then you probably have a locking diff, albeit probably worn after all these years. It wont hurt anything to do this, just be sure not to make a huge cloud of boiling tire smoke if you live in city limits..

I have an open diff in my 67 Cougar, even on wet pavement it would only spin one tire, ice same thing, just one. I put it in reverse and it would spin the drivers side rear like it should. That is an open rear for you.
