I got one at Lowes (for the water pump though). I agree that Home Depot is about the worst. the one around here doesn't even have Grade 8 bolts, at least not that I or the guy working therecould find. You could also try an automotive parts store. I know the ones in this town all carry Grade 8 bolts. the problem in my experience would be finding one longer than 4 inches, and I think the one on the power steering pump is over4 inches long.

Haven't really thought much about the size of the air filter,The car works fine with what is there, do you think it wouldlook or run better with the bigger Hi-Po one.
Definitely yes and maybe.

well, lets think bigger air filter, means more air can get in correct???? imho they do look much better

Yeah, obviously with a larger air cleaner unit you are going to be able to draw in more cold air into the carb which willl help produce more ponies. The Shaker hood on my 03 Mach does a pretty good job of offering the 4.6 with sufficient cold air through the K&N filter. The same theory applies to our vintage Mustangs.

no a taller one will think about it it doesn't matter how wide it is its how tall you could have a 20" (for all intensive purposes) with a 1/4 tall filter but a 6" wide filter that is 4" tall will out flow

The height times the diameter times pi (3.14....)gives you the total amount of area for air flow. Height and diameter are equally important.

On the air filter question being a biotech. engineer i can bore you guys silly. Bottom line air filters are so called high dirty handling filters (depth filters) which means the filter volume is important not the just the aera (that is important for membrane filters) but also how the material is packed in the filter is important(think cotton wool basically). They work by have a tortuous flow path which blocks the particulate mater but doesn't result in significant blinding of the filter. This basically means that comparing depth filter is a pain in the ****, as in biotech one vender sells on aera and another on filter length. If you look at a K/N compared with a normal filter the K/N is thicker (normally) this allows for a more open structure therefore higher air flow but still gives as good filteration, often these high flows filters are coated in oil to make the particles stick to the filter.

Paddy187 have you seen the new fiber media filters? What do you think about those - the Amsoil line is EaO- I think that they are made by Donaldson for them. They are supposed to flow better than paper year filter much better than the K&N gauze filter.
