Default '67 fuel gauge help please.

Hey there, I have a bit of a problem. I just got my '67 coupe, about a month and a half ago. But I haven't had much time to work on it. There isn't alot of big things to work on, the biggest is probably the fuel gauge. It always shows on empty, even after I fill the tank up all the way. And I'm wondering how I can fix this? I have a chilton book on my car, but it doesn't show too much in to depth about my problem. (I'm only 16, and I'm still trying to learn about cars). If anyone could help me this would be great. Thank you.

Crawl under your car at the front of the tank. There will be a wire going to the sending unit. (same location as the fuel line) Pull the wire off and connect it to a ground with a "jumper wire", turn your key on and watch your guage. Does it go to full now?

As Stepman stated, it is most likely the fuel gauge sending unit located in your fuel tank. If its the original, you can bet its no longer working.
