Default rear end...

Ok so here are the symptoms....
Rear end hasbeen whining since I gotthe car (1 year 8 months), changing gear oil didn't help.
Recently in the last couple months:
Periodically changes Tone and Volume of whine to a lower and much louder whine, then it will go away for awhile and then come back. It has been becoming moreconsistent with the lower and louder whine. also only whines like that when I am accelerating or keeping a consistent speed, basically whenever theengine is applying forceto the rear end.

I thought It could be a bearing seizing up on me due to the gear oil not getting to the wheel barringsbecause of the cold, however I live in Tucson, 50-60 degrees isn't that cold. and I never got the symptoms of a bearing seizing up so right now I am thinking that it is my Ring and Pinion gears, what do you guys think? (as far as I know they are theoriginal ring and pinion gears from 66)

Your whine/howl is definitly the gears. Your rear end needs to be re-done. Its the backlash thats off. You need a dial indicator to set it properly though.

+1, any kind of whinning is from the gear backlash being incorrect. The wheel bearings may be going as well, but that noise is more of a wobbling/howling noise. Since you'll need to get into the rear end to adjust the gear backlash, you'll have to replace the wheel bearings anyway (two birds with one stone).

Whining would be coming from the gears +1 to these guys.

If it's an aftermarket set of gears, about half the time they wine even with correct backlash. It's called run in. several manufactures used to match the ring and pinion when they cut the gears, They don't do that anymore. for the most part. Some still do like Ford Racing, but others like Jegs don't, and with the ones that don't it's hit or miss for the wine condition.
I put jegs in my 8.8 and it wined checked back lash and it was dead on, I sent them back and went to a ford dealer for For racing, No wine. same back lash.

Turn your radio up.

Well its going to need more then that now.... as I was driving to the gas station today I herd some weird noises over my radio and so I turn it off and well what I herd was some squeaking, scratching, scraping, grinding, and any other BAD noise you do not want to hear coming from you rear end.... so now I am getting ready to tear in to it whether or not I want to :| ill let you guys know what it was... I just hope my axles didn't get damaged.

I bet you gears are just all ate up, sounds like a good excuse to get some new ones, and an entire rebuild kit, ran me under 500 bucks for parts. Or if you want to take the easy way out and have been wanting to say add a posi unit, get an entire 3rd member and bolt that bugger up!!

Well its torn apart and its not the gears, they look great.... the 2 bearings holding the ring in place allowing it to spin are shot (they will move in and out, and up and down so they need replaced but I did have excessive backlash causing the initial whine oh and 7 of the 9 bolts holding the 3rd member in place were finger tight (my fault for never checking parts out before letting a problem arise) and there was a bearing starting to seize on the passenger side axle.... so I will possibly have to get a new axle. However I am not going to be able to afford stuff I want (lock wheel, and 3.55 ring and pinion gears) so I am sticking toa complete rebuild of bearings, seals and gasketsregardless if they "need" it or not and any other part that needs to be replaced so tomorrow I go and make my wallet bleed a little bit :'(

Thank the Lord this happened while I was here in town and not a couple days ago when I was a couple hundred miles away...
