Ground strap on '67 I6...does it exist?
I've looked thru the 67 shop manual and wiring diagrams but can't seem to find any info on grounding strap for the I6. There is not one on my engine to firewall and wondering should one be there. I have sparks coming off the engine side connection of negative battery wire when starting the engine. Guess it could be a loose connction. Does anyone have pictures of where the grounding strap should be attached and also where the neg battery cable attaches to the engine..thanx guys!!!
Hopefully this is a little bit more useful information than "selling it".
Unfortunately there aren't any diagrams in this tech article that show you where the strap goes, but in the 4th paragraph it explains that 1) the straps are essential to the system (hence youre sparking problem) and 2) they go in between the cylinder head and the firewall.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Joe..thanx for the reply and link. You would think some type of grounding strap would be needed. However, the PO may have removed it for whatever reason. Can't seem to find any place to make the connections...I'll keep searching...
I just walked out to look at mine. I know yours will be different because its an I6, but my grounding strap is on the passenger side of the block and the firewall connection is just to the right of the blower motor for the heater; then the block connection point is on the backside of the passenger side cylinder head (counldn't see exactly where but I could feel it).
I would think as long as you have the thing touching the block and both connection points are solid grounds (good metal contact) then it should be doing its job.

It really doesn't matter where the grounding strap is, unless your trying to go for originality. The goal is to get an excellant ground between your block and your chassis.
Pick up a short starter cable at Autozone or such and find an unused threaded hole. If you can't find one, then one of the existing bolts that hold your accessories to the block. Whichever you find, make sure the surface area under the bolt head is perfectly clean and bare. Use a wire brush on a drill motor to clean the area thoroughly. Any other surfaces touching the cable should be wire brushed also. On the cable lug, take a file and rough up the surface a little, so that when you bolt it down, it will 'bite'. Now attach it in place, tightening down firmly. Attach the other end to a bolt that mounts into or on the frame. A good place up front is where the sway bar bushings mount to the angle frames. Use the same technique...perfectly clean.
You'll see a difference.

James...appreciate the reply and step-by-step. Went to Autozone today for a ground strap but they won't have any in till Wednesday. I will get on this soon and hopefully see some electrical gremlins disappear..
Here's a few pics I found that may help.

This one runs from the framerail, along the firewall, to the back of the block.

Look under the bottom hose upper bend and you can see where this cable grounds to the block.
