Default Axles difficult to get in

I got new custom alloy axles from moser. They came with the bearings installed. The bearings that came with the axles dont look the same as the ones that were on the original axles, the new ones have a rubber o ring on the bearing. When installing the axles it was quite difficult to get them in, i had to use a lot of lube and a rubber mallet to get past the O-ring part. Is it normal for the axles to be a tight fit? I measured the axles to make sure they were the same length as the ones that came out so i dont think that was a problem. The axles are in now and it is difficult to move the whole assembly by hand, it takes a good deal of force. Is it normal for everyhting to be so tight?

You have a 9" rear right? Where is the plate that hold the axles in? It should be between the bearing and the flange and I dont see it in your pic.. Unless you have a retainer plate that is slotted or something, you will need to press the bearing off to get a plate on it..

Or has it been so long since I did a 9" that I am thinking of a different rear end? Maybe I am losing it...

How much effort does it take to turn things when they are in? Do you have a beam type torque wrench? You could use that to find out how much force is required to spin things. There are specs like that for rear ends and other components..

I just bought the same axels from moser. The rubber ring is the axel seal(so the oil dont flow out). Since the ring is the seal you kan remove the old seal from the housing. I have not mounted my axels yet, so Iam not sure how difficult they are to mount.

The moser axels come with a U formed plate that dont has to be placed before you put on the bearing

So do you think that maybe the old seals are getting in the way causing excess friction. It is also really pretty difficult to spin the assembly.
