I did a engine swap in my 72 for more horses .The 302 was tired.
Found a 69 351w "m" code and put it in. I tried to do everything by the book, it was going great till I tried to start it with the firing order for the 351w .
POP BOOM BANG!!!!
I kept setting it to top dead center on the #1 but was still out of time.
For three days I messed with it and asked everyone Icould , what was I doing wrong.
Then I looked here with you guys and read that a 302 cam could be used in a 351w but you have to use the firing order for a 302.
I was at the end of my rope so it tried it..... and waalaaa it fired right up.

Why would someone want to use the 302 cam in a 351w?
Is the and avantage or something?
Any insight in this would be very helpfull.
should I change it?

 

I have a 302 cam in mine too. Had it in there for about 15 years. At the time that I was shopping for a cam, they didn't make the grind I wanted in a 351, so I went with the 302. I actually pulled it once and put the right one in it but it broke so, I threw the 302 one back in. I guess it was just meant to be.....By the way, where did you find the 69 351? I'm looking for one to build.

 

It took awhile, I looked and asked around here in Hot Springs,AR.
After about 10 months, I mustang man called and said he just traded for a 69 mach that was a basket case but had a good "M" code. I jumped on it .
Traded him a chevy 3.50 posi and 200 cash.
I think I did pretty good but I don't know. Never bought a motor before.
I haven't come across one again.
But I'm always looking.
