Car storage with no supises
ORIGINAL: Soaring
A heat pump will control both the humidity and temp, but would be expensive over the long haul. A small de-humidifier would be my choice if I was there to empty it every day or so. Yeah, I know they make de-humidifiers that empty themselves outside, but once again, expensive. Unless you are talking about a 428CJ or one of the more exotic Mustangs, the cost factor of maintaining a car without driving it just ain't gonna happen on most people's pocket book.
On Edit: After looking at your sig picture, I suddenly realize you not only have a gaggle of classic Mustangs, you have some expensive ones as well. Go with the heat pump. You can afford it.

Yeah, you could punch a round hole in the wall, run the hose through it and use some goop to seal it from the exterior. That'd work for the humidity. Now, how about the temp control? If the barn was next to the house, you could just plumb the air con from the house to it. If not, you could just blow a hole in the wall and put in a wall unit. Set that sucker for 72 degrees and forget about it.

the salt sucks tho..
It depends on the size of the barn which size air con he should get. My 1700 Square Foot house costs me about 200 bux a month for electricity, and we are an all electric house with the thermometer set at 68 in the winter and 74 during the summer. We have a heat pump. He says it's a barn. Not sure what he means about that. Just wondering if there is any insulation at all.
Ha Ha, I call it my barn, actually its a 2400 sq ft post steel insulated building. About a R-11.Yes,they are all "legal and driveable" except the J-code which I will do in about three years. I do the usual stuff, start and drive on nice days, change gas and add "Stabil", Irishspring soap in the floorboards, fluids, wax, rodent control, etc. Winter is a problem, snow, ice, salt, gravel, on the road keeps them inside for about 5 months. As its my hobbie, I enjoy keeping the cars up. Thats why I'm trying to learn more about how to better store them. No, I don't wash them, but in the summer the humidity runs better than 90%. No, I'm not going to cut a holein the side of the house and plumb (however this is tempting)or run a hose out of the gas tank.Just trying to figure outwhat is best.
