Ok, this might sounds extremely dumb but I am so confused! Today I removed my front shocks and shock tower caps. I thought the caps came off easily becuase the shock is skinny while theres a big opening in the cap, but i CANNOT remove it! Anyone else have this problem?

Did you take all the bolts loose? The 2 at the shock and the 3 around the edges? It may be stuck and you'd have to whack it...

 

I have it completly removed from the car and sitting on the work bench. Also, my 67 caps are different than yours. The prongs are just wide enough that no matter what angle I try, I cant fit it back through the opening of the cap. This makes me wonder how they got them on in the first place..

 

I have a 66 and I just replaced my front shocks without removing the shock tower caps.

You cant get the shocks off of the shock bracket? Thats a first. I have a 67 i just replaced the suspension on, and the shocks came right out of the hole. Maybe somebody bought the wrong ones for the car.

 

Everything looks original on the suspension. Its hard to explain even through pictures but ill try and get some up later tonight

 

You're talking about the prongs on the shock where it connects to the cap right? Those aren't going through the hole?

 

To get the cap off the end of the shock is tricky. Took me awhile. You have to angle it to get one prong under the edge, then just wiggle and try different angles to get the rest. Once one side is through the other side should be a lot simple.

 

I had a pain of a time getting mine back through the shock tower caps too. You have to mess around with it untill you finally find the right angle just to have to do it agian on the other side.
