Default rebuilding carb

I have a 1967 289. It has a 4 barrel haley carb. It is leaking gas and I was told i should get a book and a kit and rebuild it. I know hardly anything about cars but am eager to learn. So if anyone knows of any good kits, books, or videos on how to do stuff like this or others. and where to get them. thanks

Rebuilding a carb is mostly disassembly, cleaning and reassembly with new gaskets and worn parts. Special tool is pressured air to blow thru holes. There is a classic book on rebuilding and the kits don't cost that much. If the flat faces are warped, fine sand paper on a piece of glass will get them flat again. GitErDun...

this might be obvious, but make sure you have the carb off the engine before you start taking it apart. Lots of small screws can spell trouble if you drop one into your motor.

Most of the kits have instructions in them, but they are very vague. Go to the parts store and get the kit and a book on rebuilding a carb. Be patient ang go slow. Pay attention to where things come from(check ***** and springs and such. A good rule of thumb I do is take pictures as I go so there's something to look back on just in case. It's tedious, but fairly simple once you understand how it works. Good Luck.

Uh, i had this same problem, but my problem was that my holley 4 barrel was too big for my 302. I was running a 750cfm and it was wasting gas like crazy. When i downgraded to a 600cfm 4 barrel, it was much better on gas. If you really want to save gas, just get a 2 barrel.
