Default help me pick an engine

well i just recieved my undergraduate chemistry scholarship money and i have some extra cash to put into my project car. im looking to get an engine and ive kinda narrowed it down to these two.

the first is a 347 stroker engine from t and l engine development. it has 400hp and 400torque for $3965.
http://www.tandlengines.com/347_stroker.html

the second is a 302 engine from jeg's. it has 345h for $3440.
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...56619_-1_11221

i like them both, but i wanted to know which one comes with the better gut. i dont know much about these brands or how popular they are. so if someone can tell me which is the better engine of the two, that would be great.

jegs good and known brand. never heard of t and l but im sure someone here has.

i think what u should do tho is tell us what you have and what your gonna use it for. is this gonna be a dd (if it is id suggest not using an older mustang then for a daily driver.)? this gonna be a show car? drag? weekender?

really depends on what u want outta this. im assuming since your using small blocks its pre 67. but some more details would help

and to soaring: i know your asleep now but we need to really have to add to the faq section engine sizes and whats best for weekenders, drags, dd's, etc... i know youll say find info and send it too ya tho

I would go with the 302...its more common and parts are readily available for it. Jegs is also a reputable company.

well, theres nothing wrong with having a mustang as a daily driver, even if its "old". If the parts are new, and everything is kept up and not allowed to go to sh**, it shouldnt be any less reliable than a younger car. I'd say the 347 is the better deal, i mean if you can afford it, id do that. Your not going phsically any bigger, but getting a lot more cubes out of the light little 302 block.

And to say "go with the 302 because there are more available parts" sorta dosent make sense since both engines are essentially "302's"....one is just bored out...everything will still work and interchange more or less except for the obviously modified things like piston and crank and crap...but those things most likely wont be hard to find replacements for...you shouldnt relaly need replacements if your not pushing it to the limit constantly.....you also might want to check out other engines as well....make sure what your buy is what you want, becuase thats a pretty big purchase to see a week later something way better.....

true....302's always have more parts readliy available. but in my humbale opinion: 67 and up have a bigger engine bay for a reason. if i ever had a 67 and up i would take advantage of that larger engine space since you dont need to cut shock towers and what not and be able to throw a big block in there. i have a 66 so i know a crap load on small blocks but not so much on bigger ones. if u could.....find a 351c and that will allow u to stroke it out quite a bit more than 347 and quite a bit more power. since its only a weekender/monthly guy id go bigger than 302 or a 302 stroker.

ya u can make an older stang just as driveable as a newer car but it requires more money. plus for a daily driver id rather have a car that i can turn on, drive off and not give a crap about.

thats arguable, but thats definitely going to be on the way to taking the car out of the "daily driver" realm. a 351 cleveland is REALLY going to be a pain to get parts for compared to a 302 based engine.

I'd prefer the 347 even if someone was willing to give me any engine for free....big blocks are good but not so much for handling and i mean come one....400hp from a small block.....? i dont think the ratio gets much better than that, especially for a daily driver......thats even a little high on the HP for DD...but oh well.

351-347=4.....Im not seeing a huge benefit besides the possibility that you could stroke the 351 to 408 or something...and if you stroke that, its going to be just getting ridiculous....you can only put so much power to the ground.....and you can only spend so much money on an engine (and paying for gas for it) before the negative outweight the positives.

get the 347, and you will have way more than enough power to make your girlfriend scream and also keep the replacement parts options open....honestly, when i looked quickly i couldnt find any "stock" 302 rotating assemblies...everything seems to be for 306's, 331's and 347's.

well from my stand point having a 66 i would jump all over having a 347. but i just figure if the car is gonna be for show or to show off thorw a big block in there. ya the handleing is gonna suck compared to a 302 but who cares when you listen to that idle........
http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...e82c450452.htm

maybe its me but when i think of a dd i think smaller and more economical is better. if u got a side car that is your "show off car" no replacement for displacement

"you will have way more than enough power to make your girlfriend scream" hahaha i like that. good one!
it seems like more of you guys are telling me to go with the 347. but what do you think about the parts that comes with it?
are they no name parts? wats a T and L custom grind camshaft? maybe i can call them and have them substitute some of the parts for ones im familiar with
