Default Urethane Single Stage Paint/Primer

okay so i pretty much understand BC/CC stuff but im curious how the single stage stuff works...i helped paint my friend car with it but i cant really remember it was so long ago....

as for primer....do you still epoxy primer bare metal and can you spray over that with color or do you use Urethane primer instead and spray color over that?

as for the color....could you somewhat just spray it on thick and not have to worry about runs and stuff as much since you can color sand and buff it out?

the single stage has the both the color and the shiny in one its a great deal cheaper that a bc/cc

yes u can paint directly over an epoxy primer with the single stage
but epoxy primer are not meant to be sanded they are used as foundation unlike a sandable high build primer

now the question about the runs yes and no if the color is mettalic no you cant because it ill disturb the mettalic dist of the panel but for a solid color yes but your just creating a lot more work for your self if u do.

but as cold as it is just make sure to get the proper hardners and reducers and dont put another coat on if its still stringy wait till its tacks(it will just finger print)

you pretty much spray a single stage like a clear coat u put a light coat on let it sit this will provide a nice tooth for the next coat to bite into then you wet it up let it flash off then wet it again

yeah i knew it had the clear in it, but ive heard of people clearing over single stage....which seems to me like these people have their heads up their a*ses but hey...lol...

can you spray urethane primer over metal and filler like u would epoxy, but just not use any epoxy at all and just top coat that with urethane primer? they usually say they are "corrosion reisistant" and so does epoxy primer....so like whats the deal with that?

epoxy primers dont absorb water like a sandable does thats the reason its good to use an epoxy it helps to hold off the corrosion

i see. so basically epoxy primer is awesome for that.

but if you just urthane primer and then SS color coat over it, its not going to like rust out right? i mean thats pretty much sealed....not epoxy primer sealed, but it is pretty much sealed off....correct?
