Default 351C

Why does there seem to be a huge lack of aftermarket parts for 351c when compared to the 351w?

well b/c the w is like the 350 chevy motor, its not very powerful stock but the block is very versitile and can hold a good bit of power. the cleve is like the chevy ls1, much better stock equipment and a very durable block more desirable and it takes less to make it fast. its hard to explain. but it just is.

rither or the cleve has alot more eye candy to it and theres not a huge need for cleve parts the stock heads were very good but if u look here theres plenty of cleve parts www.ausfordparts.com www.chiheads.com if u starting from scratch its really a toss up esp but the cleve was only manfactured form 1970-1974 so u have to do a little diggin unless u order one from the ausford website they had them for a while down under

yeh and they are still really popular here so heaps of bits around.
now, b/c the W has more performance bits available in the US, those blocks are becoming more popular and more expensive because they are relatively rare here.

You can build a Cleveland, it is just a challange.
Edelbrock and CHI make nice aluminum heads.
Edelbrock makes aluminumwater pumpsand intakes.
March makes all the billet brackets and pulleys that you could want
You can build one, just count on it costing about 40% more than a 351W

I had a 377" Cleveland built for my 71 Mustang, it was a pain, but it was worth it 425hp 426ft lbs

if you have a Cleveland, there is no reason NOT to use it. even the 2V heads are good flowing and will make serious power.

if you need to find one, well whatever you find first in your price range will work.

Clevelands dont need alot of aftermarket parts to make good power. Also since the market here is rather small, they arent always listed in the catalogs or websites. being only built from 70-74 there just arent as many of them around.

Under 6500 rpm, they will live forever and make great power. if you want to spin them tighter, then you need to restrict the oil flow to the cam, run a solid or roller cam, and use some quality rods such as Crower or Oliver. Light pistons and pins will help with the silly high rpm and built right 9000 rpm is achieveable, just not with the stock parts in an unmodified block.

Austrailia is the place to find all the high end stuff like killer heads, aluminum blocks, and wild induction setups. 4V heads are nice but not absolutely needed for a good street build, if you have them they will still make plenty of power if cammed right. One of the fastest cars I ever built was a 4V Cleveland with 3.00 gears and a stock stall FMX. From idle at a dead stop you could roast the tires and not have to hold the brake, there was no soggy bottom end to be seen.

Windsors are good too, and the aftermarket was needed to make power with them. They were built in great numbers for a long time. Although no Windsor in stock form can compare with a Cleveland, a set of aftermarket heads and a cam swap wake them up nicely. Parts are cheap and plentiful for the W, simply because there were so many made and some large parts swap with a 302/289.. like heads and cams..

i dont know why people would need to buy aluminum heads for a 4v cleveland anyways..from what i read..they flow anuff to produce600+ horse..lol..219" canted valves or bigger..221" i think were the bad boy 351 boss heads.<~~somthing close to that size....chevy 350 bad boy heads are 202...cleveland 4v heads are insaine for flow..where alot ofsmall blockscant hang stock and have to get aluminum heads..with a cleveland..you dont have to unless your worried about weight..which a cleveland isnt a very heavy motor anyways cause of its thin walled casting..as a race motor..its one of the best...but they are getting harder to find

Maybe because the C was only made for a few years and the W for a few decades?
