Default Cowl Completion?

I fit doesn't rain to bad this weekend I should be finishing up the cowl replacement on the bucket. The passenger side is done and driver's is almost done. I have been using Oxy for this. And I must say that trying to spot weld with Oxy is a pain in the @%%[:@]The Mig will be coming in June so I can start on the skins.
Since spot welding is a pain I was going to paint the cowl and seal it, but notweld the cover piece back on the until I get the mig. I was going to do the trunk and floor boards in the meantime with the Oxy.
My question is this:
Is the cowl cover structural and will I tweek anything by lifting the front or rear of the car without it on? Should I at least weld the rear apron extensions on?
