So Close!
I'm so close to finishing my 65' GT it's not even funny. I'm getting ready for paint and then it gets sprayed. I'm so excited. I already have a list of kids that want to race me and a longer list of kids that just want to ride in it.
Be smart. I'm presently serving on a grand jury and we indicted a 17 year old for maiming his three best friends while driving drunk. I am 53 years old and have never seen such a destroyed automobile. The tach was stuck at 5000rpm and the car (Audi A6) was still in fifth gear.
The Massachusetts State Trooper who investigated estimated the car was going 125mph when it left the road. Lucky, lucky kids. But they don't look so hot, nor walk as well these days, and the driver is going to jail.
I was your age when all these muscle cars were new. We drove them hard because parts were cheap and easy to get. I had my wrecks but survived because my Guardian Angel could keep up. More than a few friends of mine didn't make it, and to be honest they usually died a horrific death.
I know I'm not the only one who has lost close friends, escaped unhurt or avoided jail. And I still can't keep my foot out of it so I'm not saying don't race. But I am saying don't drink and drive. That is sure to end in misery.
I wish you kids would listen but I don't really expect you to. It's hard for youth to accept that discretion is the better part of valor. Some kids are just flat out stuck on stupid. They won't make it. Please don't be goaded into a disaster.
One more time for those with ADD. Be smart. Pick your moments carefully. Then mat it, and hope your Guardian Angel is a racer.

Well getting the paint on it is the last step right before the reassembly begins... If the engine and drivetrain, brakes, and electrical system are all done, then you are close. =) Sometimes it feels good to just start puting parts ON a car, and you are still a long way from paint at that point..lol.
As for racing, well man, beating on a nice car might win a couple races, but it will leave that car showing the signs and wear. If you want to race, you dont do it with a nice car. They are too heavy and too much money in them. Build a beater for a race car, something light but not a front driver. just a cheap car that might not be in the best shape. Mavericks make nice race cars..
I am only here because I was lucky, it had nothing to do with the driving skills I had. Been driving for over 20 years and havent wrecked anything yet. Mostly its because I watch for morons who want to wreck my projects, I dont really drive all that fast maybe 5-10 over the limit if its safe, you know no fog rain or snow. I learned by nearly killing myself and wrecking my car not to do certain things again.
I have also been racing since 1987, off and on with a number of different cars. its rare that I raced my daily driver, since if I break it I cant get around anymore.. Tell the kids who want to race that they can race the next one, this one isnt really a racer, its a cruiser...
life will be better.

Not to be rude or anything, but with all due respect, if I wanted a cruiser I'd have gotten a six cylinder. I know how to drive and I won't do anything if I think it's too dangerous.

Coolness...
its good to know you will be smarter and more prudent than I was..
Kudos!
