need help hard to start when hot
i have a 302 with a edelbrock 600 elec choke , i just put new autolight platinum plugs, new msd 8mm wires, a msd blaster 2 coil, and a mallory unilight distributor. the gap on the plugs are .044. the problem is thatwheni goon atrip even a shortone and make a stop its hard to get it stated back up it takes few trys and some times it will start then die right away. im stuck and any advise would really help thank you
I'm having the same trouble with my new engine that I just ran for the first time this past weekend. I didn't have time to tinker with it, but it exhibited the same symptoms you describe.
FWIW, have a carb spacer, new carb, fuel pump, distributor, basically everything. It wasn't too warm out, I have a carb spacer and didn't have a hood on the engine so I'm not thinking it is vapor lock. We shall see.
[edit] If you are going to add the carb spacer (a good idea regardless, I have a 1" phenolic spacer that saw no more action than idling on top of my engine in the drivewaythat I'd part with for cheap. PM if interested.
[edit2] My MSD coil is mounted on the inner fender. The vehicle won't stall at speed but will die at idle. I'm guessing either the carb needs some tweaking and/or the timing needs to be re-looked at.

you might alos want to move the coil away from the block. if the coil gets too hot, it can cause hard starting issues. i didn't know this until a friend with an old bronco showed me how he had mounted the coil away from the block to handle the problem.
Was the in line filter empty?

Got Hand?
Carbs have three circuits in them for fuel delivery. Idle circuit, off-Idle circuit, and Power circuit.
Gas goes below the butterflies on the idle circuit
Gas goes just above the butterflies on the off-idle circuit
And gas goes threw the power venturies on the power circuit.
Unscrew your Idle screws all the wayand clean them out , put them back in and bottom the screw out, back off 1 1/2 turns each, this will give you a good place to start for setting the idle screws.
