The fact that you replaced the Distributor was the clue I was looking for.

Got Hand?
Carbs have three circuits in them for fuel delivery. Idle circuit, off-Idle circuit, and Power circuit.
Gas goes below the butterflies on the idle circuit
Gas goes just above the butterflies on the off-idle circuit
And gas goes threw the power venturies on the power circuit.
Unscrew your Idle screws all the wayand clean them out , put them back in and bottom the screw out, back off 1 1/2 turns each, this will give you a good place to start for setting the idle screws.

Before I get into the carb, I have to have a better handle on my timing. I'm running a reverse rotation water pump and serpentine belt setup so I had to relocate the timing marks to the right side of the engine. I'm going to recheck that and make sure I didn't screw that up first. [:-]
Thanks again for the input.
Could be any or all. I had one that did it... I did the carb spacer... didn't help. Did the timing..didn't help. I finally replaced my starter with a smaller mini-starter to get it away from the headman long tube headers. That finally fixed it.

FWIW, mine was not difficult to turn over when hot, it just was harder to fire up and hold idle.
If the timing is advanced too far, a starter will appear to be dying or a weak battery because the engine is firing too early and trying to turn the engine the reverse direction. BTDT.
