Default Relocating the timing indicator

Need a bit of advice. My crate motor is somewhat of a bastard in that it is an early model engine but I am running a reverse rotation water pump and serpentine belt setup from a Fox body, i.e. the water pump connects on the driver's side. Unfortunately, this blocks my timing indicator which is nothing more than a metal rod (1/8") epoxy'd into the housing.

Anyway, my Professional Products balancer has three sets of timing marks, clearly at least one being for the passenger side. I picked up two different bolt-on indicators from the wrecking yard, one from a late model Fox body 5.0L and the other from a late 70's 302. The two indicators seem to point to slightly different spots, the 5.0L to about 11 o'clock and the 302 to about 10 o'clock. Also, each of them have a hole but, but in different spots relative to the pointer.

1. Which one is correct or is there an easy rule of thumb to know which one to use?

2. What is that hole on the indicator for?

Thanks!

that hole is there to bolt it on , here is one of our motors that you can see the pointer mounted on the passenger side you can see where it is mounted in the pic. you may have to change the timing cover to one that has a bolt on pointer.

The hole I was referring to is actually on the pointer itself. It looks like a metal bung on the pointer body, but it is not the pointer that you use to read the timing.

Anyway, the engine builder emailed me back with a bolt-on pointer that I ordered from my local Ford dealer.

Thanks.
