Default lowering ride height

i was wondering something about lowering the ride height.

i read about you have to mount (drill 2 holes) the upper control arm 1" lower and install coils that are 1" lower.. but to my idea it means the body doesn't come down 1".. since actually you raise the body 1" (by lowering the control arm) and with the 1" lower coil you bring body back to original height ..or do i see something wrong here??
(with owering ride height i mean reducingdistance between wheel and fender )

How low do you want to go?? Have to be careful especially if you plan on having headers!!!

We know it as the Shelby mod. It does bring down the front end almost 1" with moving the control arms down. If you only come down the 1" then you should be fine if you come down more then that you have to be careful of theball joints binding and not working properly. NPD sells a kit to fix that, I would imagine a lot of places do. As for lowering, mine is 3" lower then stock, no problems with headers or exhaust.

LCC .. those 3" on your car looks great.. but i am afraid with all those " obstacles" they made on the road hereto slow the cars down, i might bump with the flange of the header on such obstacle ( something i have experienced with my corvette)

Get the Global West kit that lowers the arm 1.75" and used a 15 degree wedge to prevent ball-joint bind. You then run 'O' camber for better tire wear and if you use the correct spring/stabilizer bar combo you will not understeer at all. If you use the 620 spring you will need to use a 1" insulator above the spring to maintain correct geometry. Plus it quiets the front suspension a good bit. I run a 1 1/8 front bar with a 3/4 rear.

If you just want to lower the car on the cheap without changing the spring rate here is what to do...measure the spring with the weight of the car on it. Remove the spring and compress it 1/2 the amount you want to lower the car. Place spring in oven at 250 for 2 hours and allow to cool overnight. Reinstall and your car will be 1" lower.

Since you did not shorten the spring length you didn't change the rate plus you 'retempered' the meal to some degree.

The Shelby drop will lower your car about 1/2" all said and done.

Do the Shelby drop, its worth the handling upgrade. Cut your front coils, 1 whole coil from the bottom will lower your car abut 1". If you are worried about going too far, cut 1/2 coil and test fit, drive the car to get it to settle and see if you like the ride height. Cut 1/4 coils at a time and repeat until you reach the desired height. You will need a front end alignment after you are done.

To lower the rear of the car:
A mod I learned from John Dinkle, Opentracker, a few years ago.

I agree...the shelby drop does not lower the car by a full inch, maybe half.

I am also considering doing the Shelby mod and alittle confused. So if you have a 620 spring that is 1" dropped, and you lower the UCA 1", would it still be ok? I thought you only needed to compress the springs about 2" to install them and that would make fitment loose...
