explorer engine
the thing is why would u want to run a carb on this motor. stock they come with the gt40 intake and gt40 heads. all u need is 24 lb injectors and calibrated maf, along with a decent sized cam, like the x cam or the b cam, and u will have 300 hp like rmodel said.

theres a guy trying to sell me a 97 Explorer engine for like 650-700. Im thinking about doing it. It has real low mileage, because the truck was wrecked and the engine was pulled out, and he's had it in his garage ever since. Also, He said i have to change out the cam to run a carburator on top of it. Is this true? I really wouldn't think the cam would matter, but he said it's configured for F.I.

because ud need to setup an electric fuel pump high pressure line and a return line wire in the computer and ud ned to get a 5.0ho setup for the puter as the exploder wouldnt be performance orientated
but like u said the intake is also a gt40/cobra style setup and the throttle body is somewhere around 65mm so its got lots of good parts to start with if u wanna go fulie
I know, Thats why im going carbed. I dont like fuel injection too much anyway. It's got the original 289 in it. It's never been touched. I'm definately keeping the 289, no matter what i do. Im still deciding to buy the engine, or supe up the 289. It'll cost more, but it's worth it to me, to keep the original motor.
