Default explorer engine

theres a guy trying to sell me a 97 Explorer engine for like 650-700. Im thinking about doing it. It has real low mileage, because the truck was wrecked and the engine was pulled out, and he's had it in his garage ever since. Also, He said i have to change out the cam to run a carburator on top of it. Is this true? I really wouldn't think the cam would matter, but he said it's configured for F.I.

i have heard this too but i can't recall where. i think it has something to do with driveability issues with the conversion but i'm not totally sure so don't quote me or anything. i think you'd want to change the cam anyway with the profile in it being all conservative and suv like. i have the distinct feeling rmodel will have the answer to this because he's the resident explorer engine swap pusher[8D]

go for it, it sounds like a damn good deal

Sounds like a lot of trouble when you time and effort could be spent making the engine you have better. 700 for a 1997 ford exploder engine is a good deal if it is in good shape. Was it damaged at all?

you might want to buy it and resell then use the profit to make better the engine you already have. That's what I would do.

gun, it's just mainly switching manifolds from efi to carb then a cam swap after ripping off the old efi crap. it's not that difficult.

It's not hard to drop one in my car. The only thing damaged was the oil pan, and he already put a new hipo one on it. I figure it's not a bad deal, i think it's got 20,000 miles on it, or less. Im thinking less. What kind of power potential is there with a new carb, intake, and cam? Thanks guys.

You do mean the 5.0, not the 4.0 right. I feel like this is an obvious question since no one would want to throw the v6 in their mustang, but thought I'd make sure anyways.

i dont get why the cam swap would be needed, although i can certainly see why it would be appealing to pep things up a bit while the motor is out.

because the stock explorer cam is for hauling the family the new one will be more suited to allow the cobra(gt40's) heads on the explorer motor breath
