Nuts & Bolts - Sweating the Small Stuff
I hate different types/size bolts on the same part...[sm=signs006.gif] NPD (or equivalent) sells kitsthat come with all the correct screws and bots for any part of the car. This also helps if your not sure what screws your missing..
I understand your thinking and I'm having the same concerns. I'm just putting my 68 back together and am having the same problem in the engine compartment too. I bought the bolt/fastener kit for $100.00 to do the whole car but it doesn't come with some of the bolts in the engine comp..I agree that all bolts/nuts should at least match and be new looking too. I'm thinking they should all be grade 8 too. I personally like the flat washer against the paint followed by the lock or splayed washer and then nut or bolt head. They do come as one unit like the new ones and they look good too. Certainly someone must sell the correct kit for the engine compartment along with the shock-tower cap carriage bolts? Good luck ... looks good though.
I will have to say that you should strive to impress only one person with your car, you. If the bolts really bug you change them, (I think they look great).
Frankly, to me, the whole 100% "stock" thing irritates just a little.

If you look closely the washer INSIDE is the engine bay has little sprocketts all around. The three washers above it have a clean diameter (no little sprocketts around the diameter). The correct version is the washer with the sprocketts.
I don't know if it's worth having the shop change the bolts and washersto the factory correct (sprocketed version). The ones on there now (non-sprocketted) have a cleaner, simpler look. What do you think?

Well, since you asked opinions, I prefer the original bolts. Whether it is worth swapping them out is up to you. I do know that I will keep this in mind when I get to the body in a few months.
Here is a picturs of thebolts/washer we put on (period correct but not year correct). It doesn't show here, but the bolts have the correct makings on the face- the washers, howver, are perfectly round without the sprockets.
I covered so many details with my shop and this was decided early on. I think their recommendation was to go this route because these bolts/washers are stainless steel and the other are not (could this be true?) I know we took off the old bolts/washers because theire was rust beginning to form.
Soaring (or anyone else) can you help clarify what year the bolts/washers in the picture below are from? My shop is closed until Tuesday - so I'll also ask them at that time.
Also, now that this is a better picture does anyone else have an opinion as to how they look in comparison to the "sprocketted" washers?
