Default Daily driver upgrades

Mustang Monthly says that the best upgrades for daily drivers today are AOD swap, disc brakes, and Pertronix ingnition. All of those are already in my plans.

Any others that you suggest? Like engine internals- I don't want anything too much, just maybe something to update the 40 year old 289....

Thanks-

headers, intake, carb, exhuast system. itll sound good, free up some power, and make daily/highway driving alot easier. also, i had all the suspension replaced, along with petronix, and then 4 wheel SSBC brakes. rides nice, holds the road well, and has enough power to let me pass people on the highway. also, some new tires

All the above and +1 on the suspension. if your a daily driver I highly recommend it.

mypriority opinion is :SSBC at least front.and Suspension upgrade at the same time (NPD street bandit or Grab a track suspension stuff)

Then MSD or Pertronix

Carb/intake and then headers and exhaust

Electric fan

Hydraulic roller cam & lifters, for durability as much as for lift rates. Most currently available automotive oils contain lower amounts of extreme pressure additives than has traditionally been the case. As far as I know, none of the current pushrod engines run flat tappet valvetrains, so the requirement for astiff EP concentration no longer exists in enough volume to justify its production for the general automotive market(related "exceptions" exist for the heavy truck market and for low volume racing oils, though). In addition, a larger percentage of lifters are being sourced overseas (read: uniformity & quality is somewhat open to question).

i would look at an accel or crane electronic ignition conversion ive heard some bad petronix stories and have myself not been impressed, rebuild your rear drums and go front disks, the reason being rear drums actually have more stopping service area than a rear disk kit and dont say oh they have too much heat build up and such your not racing at bristol and a good rebuild kit will be just as good if not better, also go with a 15 inch wheel and no bigger, no more than 3:50.1 gears, npd street bandit kits or mustang depot suspension kits grab - a -trak i feel is cheeply made...tri-y headers are a good start for a street car, and then back that with a 2.5" exhaust system, make sure your weatherstripping is in good condition for sure, good long lasting tires ex. cooper cobra radial gt, bf goodrich radial t/a, a good radiator for sure ie griffin has drop ins, check your thermostat, water pump...as far as internals, comp cams cam and lifter kits are awesome and summit has a ton, get a good oil pump ie melling, if you dont already a good carb ie autolite 4100 holley 4150, airgap intake manifold and that should be about it i would say...i know i wrote alot but i was just trying to cover everybase...also make sure you use good lubricants and sparkplugs and plug wires...

Lots of good suggestions- I appreciate everyone's input. Interesting comments about pertronics- I never heard anything bad about them, but then I don't get around much, either.

How about some 3-point seat-belts. Or, if you dare, get a 4-point roll bar and add a couple 5-point racing harnesses to the front.

You might consider a steering column swap for a daily driver,,, the solid steering shaft reminds me ofa sword pointed right at your heart in the event of a frontal collision.

Just an observation!
