Default interior door color

my son wants to paint the 66 a gray pearl with black interior - question - do you guys think that painting the metal area on the door in the gray with the black door panel will look good? Painting it black would be too much and we live in California so it would burn your arm every time you got lazy and used the door for an armrest.....

The car was originally tahoe turquoise and I had wanted to paint it that color but my son thinks it is a bit femme, since it is a restomod project, I can probably get over the gray - gray/black/chrome is always a classic color scheme. Wouldn't it be correct to paint the interior door piece the same color as the outside?

"Correct" for the standard interior is to paint the door surround the same color as the panel. Maybe it is just me, but I think the two-toned door panel scheme just doesn't quite look right. FWIW, I had a black interior here in L.A. and it wasn't too bad in the summer. The door didn't burn me nearly as often as the metal on the inside of the belt buckle. [:@]

If you go with the gray, I'd go for the all black interior. Besides, you shouldn't put your arm up on the door as it will wear through the paint.

If the rest of the interior is black, then the door should be black as well. It doesn't matter what the exterior color is.

If it were me I would paint the door jambs the same color as the exterior.

A possible exception wold be if I were going to use a two tone paint job on the exterior of the car, in this case I might use the "offset" color on the upper portion of the jambs, in good taste of course.

To me it is important to carry the exterior scheme into theinterior to unify the entire car. I think it is somewhat important toclimb into the same car that you see from the outside.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the interior portion of the door panel that surrounds the insert. I can't imagine anybody painting the door jambs different from the exterior. Woof!

IMHO if you want to paint the doors the exterior colors you should go with a complete two tone interior. A la pony interior. Paint the doors and dash and whatnot (all the metal stuff) the same, even the carpet the same. Then all the trim and seats and soft items black. I think it'll look sweet. Oh and maybe even a little brushed aluminum on the glove box cover and instrument cluster.
You really have two choices for a clean look IMHO again.
First but with the paint of your choice. http://www.haddockweb.com/Chas66Mustc500.JPGor http://www.mustangdreams.com/lars.jpgbut instead of wood use brushed aluminum.
Second http://www.classicsandmore.com/cars/...20interior.JPGfor the most clean looks.
And as far as using the same scheme for the seats, you could always get a custom job. I don't know if they have any black/grey pony interior color options. Good luck!

Yea, I was talking about the jambs!, but IMO the rest of the (metal) interior needs to be painted body color,an offset color or a combination of the two. (if black is the offset color then black will do fine).

I know it is hard to imagine the jambs being painted differently than the rest of the car, but I have seen it, not pretty.

There is an article in MM from about 6 months ago, where a father/daughter team built a 66 coupe. the interior was mostly pony, on a lightblue/white scheme. The door metal was painted blue, (like the exterior) with a white standard door panel. The metal part of the dash was white, blue dash pad, and wood grain gauges and glove box door.

Looked great IMO, but it's just that- an opinion.
