I highy recommend not using the "picnic mat". In my experience water will get trapped under it and will cause rust.

My trunk looked like utter crap aswell so I stripped it down to clean metal, primered it, and still need to rust proof it. Then I will put down some dynomat and have a local shop custome carpet it for me.

BS. My original trunk is still rust free. It's called maintenance. Any metal, if not properly prepped, will rust. Carpet or trunk liner is not the diverse mechanism to stop and prevent rust. You can have rust under carpet just as easily as under the original covers in the trunks of our dinosaurs. The visual aspect is all that you will achieve by spending money on the trunk area. Like I said before, "who sees your trunk other than you?"

AMEN to that Soaring. if its prepped and kept correctly there is no reason for this. plus carpet can hold alot more moisture.! Our cars will live on forever as long as they are taken care of and maintained in a proper and correct way.!
