Default Too much detail? Never!

It's strange how I have gotten carried away with my Mustang restoration. I had no idea how much I would enjoyed obsessing about every little detail - and I don't even have a coucours car. I guess I just have a lot of pirde in how the car is shaping up - just like many of you have with your rides.

Anyway, I was curious about how little of a detail to you pay attention to.Today I had the shop scrape all the surface rust off the top of the gas tank and replace every screw holding it in!

Also I had them repaint the littleoil breather ring to black becasue the red did not match the red of my valve covers.

Anyone have me beat for obsessing over details? Pictures please!

Sounds like you are like me in some ways. I think the details are what sets the really good cars from the rest. My self, I am very particulare about having everything painted. I am currently on my first door and I am making sure that the hinges are painted as good as the rest of the car. Before I am finished I will have painted everything on the car, which will be about the time I will probably need to start again at the beginning.

I was watching show today (Trucks! on Spike) and they had these really nice stainless steel bolts for the fenders. That was so nice I have to try and get some.

I am in the last stages of rebuilding my 65' Fastback and I would say that I am enjoying not obsessing over every little detail as much as you are doing things the other way. Don't get me wrong, but one of the reasons I went a restomod approach was so I could do things my way, worry about what I want and forget about the rest. As a custom home builder I am always on the other end of things trying to satisfy my clients' wishes and fulfilling their dreams. I really enjoy being on the other side of the table. I have had my car for 21 years and I will have it another 21 so I could care less what others think, which is really a liberating way of doing things (for once in my life).

One thing I do agree with you on is that seeing these cars come together is a blast! In the hectic life we live it is nice to have a pleasant place to retreat to when things get crazy, even if it is your imagination (which is where it has to be until this car is finally done).

I have enjoyed watching your car come together and I think it is cool how it is so personalized to you. It will be a sweet ride, and I am sure you will appreciate every little nut and bolt. Keep us updated!

I tightned all of my fender bolts under the hood so they all face the same way. Point of the head of the bolts towards thefirewall with all "SEMS" lettering facing the person standing in front of the grill.
