Tune up
Im getting a tune up on my mustang and they are charging me $225 to change spark plugs, spark plug wires, roder, distributor cap, checking and adjusting timing chain, and something about the points. Do you think its a reasonable price?

honstly id do te plugs wires rotor and cap my self and buy a petronix to replace the points a small socket set(standard not metric as these old cars dont use them) and a timing light and the book for the 65-73 cars from the parts store and ull be in it less than 225 if u dont have any tools(craftsman from sears is good) and ull learn something along the way and also u can adjust the timing chain on these old cars its either stretched or its not

i would just that all myself, it isnt that hard
thats a rip off dude. ID you brought your car to my house, i'd charge you like $20 bucks for that. 225 is crazy. it's not hard, you can do it yourself. Ask us questions, thats what we are here for. I have faith in you.
Sounds like about $80 in parts, maybe a few bucks less depending on whether or not the replacement distributor cap has brass electrodes (that would be a few dollars more) and whether or not they are replacing the points or just adjusting them. While I would do it myself, that may not be an option for you. If your uncertain about these guys ask friends and coworkers for recommendations and ask why they are recommending a particular mechanic. Also, if there is a local Mustang club, go to a meeting get to meet the guys and gals then ask them for recommendations on a mechanic. If you do dcide to do this yourself and you don't have the necessary tools including a timing light and dwell meter, your looking at a littleover $225 for the tools and parts (a timing light's gonna' run you a few bucks). A kit to convert that old distributor to a HEI ignition system will cost $80 to $120, depending on the type and brand, but this is an easy job (I'm going to do it on my wife's 68 Mustang tomorrow actually). Since you wouldn't need to buy a dwell meter or timing light, this would actually be cheaper orthe same as buying the necessary tools and parts and setting the timing yourself. JMHO
Id really love to do this all myself but i dont really know much about cars. thank u for the advice. im going to read over my Haynes repair manual and see wat i can learn from it. Do you guys know of any other manual that can teach me more about my car
