carb/intake combos
It seems that there are 2 distinct setups that always seem to go together - Edelbrock/Edelbrock & Weiand/Holley. Since I am not planning on driving the car alot, I don't really want to get the Holley - a guy at work mentioned thatsome gaskets are above the float line and wear out faster (so if the car sits without being driven, the gaskets could dry out and deteriorate faster - it is my understanding that Edelbrock doesn't have this issue).
That being said, is there anybody out that that is using a Weiand intake with an Edelbrock carb? While I have followed alot of these threads with the folks seeming to consistenly like the Weiand intakes but have varied opinions of the carbs. What do you guys think?

I've run almost exclusively Holley carbs with Edelbrock manifolds. My brother's 66 vert has an Edelbrock manifold and he had the Edelbrock carburetor. After a few different shops couldn't quite get the carb dialed in just right and after several years of problems, he scrapped it and went to Holley.
As for the gaskets "drying out", I put my old '65 GT in storage sometime in 1997 and didn't touch it until 2006. Not only was the carb dried out, any fuel left in the tank had evaporated as well. It was bone dry! Anyay, after changing the plugs and fluids and putting some fuel in the tank, the engine fired up on the 2nd crank with the help of a little starting fluid. Ten minutes later after all the crap burned out of the engine, it was purring like a kitten.
YMMV.

I had a Holley on a dune buggy with a Volkswagon engine once and it worked great. I was originally wanting to go Weiand/Holley until the mechanic where I work mentioned the issue with Holley. Anyone else heard of this?
The dry gasket thing is all crap. It that is the only problem he has with Holley he is just looking for something to complain about. The only complaint I have is that the fast idle screw isa pain to get to and if you pull the bowls to do a rejet you get fuel on the intake. Other than that I love them.
my 79 ford truck..holley 650..leaks so much gas all over the motor im afraid to drive it anymore...its leaking from a few dif places...lol...it caught fire ,,cause of a back fire...its plain wore out..but it isnt the only one i seen like this..i seen a 750 on afreinds ford truck leaking like crazy too....dried out...but im talkin about 15 year old carbs...some people get pissy..cause they expect there carb to last forever..lol
BG road demon/speed demon and a edelbrock performer rpm or rpm airgap is the best bet for any street performance vehicle IMO
some guys say the RPM isnt good cause its "powerband" is 1500-6500 but wtf, your idling at almost 1k rpms anyways and we all know it doesnt take more than a split second to be revving up or above 1500
the Barry Grant carbs are like holleys but tricked out right from the start with better quality parts and hell they even look better [8D]

I found a stubby flat head screwdrive will get you to the fast idle screw on a holley without removing my 14in round filter. Not sure how it would work if you have the inclosed snorkle type air clearner tho
