Yes but this is about 1.75 to 1.85 to 1. What would make sucha difference? since I don't know much about a POSI rear end would it act this way if something were broken? The car was purchased by the previous owner in 1978 and stored as is in an airconditioned/heated warehouse until I bought it a month ago. He doesn't know anything about it he just bought it because it is a fastback.

Thanks
Kerry

I actually turned the yoke10 times and the rear wheel turned less that5 times actually about 1.75. so no it isn't anywhere near 2.8. I am just baffled. I get the same results if I hold one wheel and turn the yoke or let both wheels turn while the yoke is being turned

thanks
Kerry
Jack up one tire and turn it twice and count the number of revolutions of your driveshaft and there you have it. If you want it more accurate, turn the wheel 10 times and divide the number of driveshaft revolutions by 5 and you'll have a pretty good idea of your ratio.

To check your rear axle ratio, jack up one side of the car (use a jack stand of course) and slither under far enough to put a chalk mark on the drive shaft. With the car in neutral (the front wheels blocked, of course) and the parking brake off, rotate the wheel that is off the ground two full turns, while watching the chalk mark on the drive shaft. Count how many turns the drive shaft turns in two complete wheel rotations, that will be your rear axle ratio within a few percent. If you have posi-traction, you'll feel some clunking and hear some noise when you do this, not to worry, that's normal.

That was the first thing I looked for and of course there isn't one.

of course, that would be too easy!

Can you post a photo of the pinion side of the axle so that it can be determined if the axle is an 8" or 9"

If it is a 9" the ratio could be ashigh as you are seeing. If the axle (or third member) was taken from a luxury car 2 to 1 is not out of line.
