a little off topic
my father-in-law has a 77 trans am. we live here in california. do you guys have any idea when we will no longer have to smog the car? he is waiing till then to rebuild the motor.
i believe its 1975 and earlier right now, and next year itd be 1976 and so on, but I'm not sure if it increases or not each year, thats just what I think happens. Can someone confirm this?
If not then just find someone that will "Pass" your car on smog test by slipping them a 20 or w/e haha

Here in NC any car more that 35 years old does not have to be inspected at all and any car before 1996 does not have to pass emissions only cars with the OBD II system do emissions.
i love kentucky only 3 citys do smog testing and im not in them call the dmv or get a po box somewhere that doesnt do the testing and tag the car there thats what i did when we tested here
Right now it has to be a 75 and older.. just go to www.ca.gov and look it up under the dmv

). At some point they decided to make it a rolling 30 year and older exemption. It stopped with the 1975 model year and there are no plans that I know of to change that.

You are correct. I bought my '65 because it was the last year that didn't require smog checks (my brother's '66 did

I live in California as well, and that's the way I understand it. Unless or until they approvea changein Sacramento (highly unlikely to occur in this state), it's staying at 1975. It's a set date not a certain number of years old here.
