theoretically anything is possible!
have a look at the RRS website. http://www.rrs-online.com/shocktowerproducts.php
They make a shocktower kit for early stangs for bigger engines. Needs to be in combo with coilover suspension. Dont know if it will allow a 429 in a 66

aussie is right rrs coilovers and brakes and there shock tower notchs or a mustang 2 weld in kit. but my point is why use that 429 when you can build a 460 small block or even a 427. biggest engine that will fit is a 351 and its a tight fit

While I was surfing around on ebay I found a 69 mustang with a 429 in it. Defenitely possible. Isn't that engine primarily found in pickups?

It's not just the shock towers... you'd have to modify the firewall, the trans tunnel to clear a larger tranny, issues with cooling, relocate battery, one off hedders,
It could be done and done well. Gas Rhonda drove a 66 with a Cammer. There wasn't much original mustang left tho.

It's tough fitting that in a 1964-66 Mustang. I have a 1969 Mach 1 with a 429 Cobrajet and there are setups out thier for these. I think Crites and other companies have motor mounts for this setup and Fordpowertrain.com has numerous headers that work with this application. This is a good setup for the 1967-1970 Mustangs but good luck with the earlier years.
The 429 would fit but the shock towers on the 65, 66 are closer together than 67 and later. I have a 429 in my 67 and it's tight but no mods were made to the shock towers. Believe it or not the 429/460 is narrower that the FE 390/428's they put in the 67 and later Stangs. The firewall and tran tunnel are the same on 65 thru 70 so that is not the issue. It really is the shock towers, trust me...
