Default Brakes

Just bought the 69 mach 1 and I want to say it is fun to drive. I would also like to say, it has manual drums and my 67 has power discs. Both stop about the same. The pedal in the 69 is a little harder but as far as stopping, it does a pretty good job. I have front discs in the future and thought about adding a power upgrade, but I am reconsidering. What says the techs?

Default RE: Brakes

If you are going normal driving speeds, the shoes will act pretty much like the discs. But if you get into a situation where you need maximum brakes and you stomp it, the shoe brakes will lock in the back and spin you around. Now, one simple resolution to that phenomina is to add a proportioning valve to control the brake fluid pressure to the rear brakes so the front brake shoes have more pressure applied. That is the simplest and least cost effective way to rid you of that phenomena. However, most classic Mustang guys simply upgrade the front brakes to discs.
