Default 68 390 block for a 67 S code?

Hey, everyone. I need to draw on your expertise. I have a 1967S code mustang, but don't have the correct engine (currently has a 289). I wanted to get a date correct 67 390/C6 into my car for the lowest possible price, and I came across a 68 ford LTD w/ a 390 motor for sale and wanted to know whether this would pass for a 67 block. I had heard from a couple of people that the 390 blocks didn't have vehicle identification numbers, so I don't have to worry about numbers matching as long as I found a date correct motor. But will the identification number for a 390 out of a 1968LTD do what I'm looking to accomplish? Since I'm relatively new to the mustang scene, any assistance would be appreciated.

No you will need to find a 390 block from a 1967.
Your #'s wont match

If it is a 1967 390 date code engine, it doesn't matter what it is out of.
