Default Trans question.....

I have a 66 with a 302 and c4.1st and 2nd seem to work pretty good but 3rd doesnt engage at all.I was getting 13 mpg and now i get 7.5 cuz i dont have 3rd.Is it just tired, could i rebuild it with a friend of the family whos done it a lot,or just buy new one?And if so where could i get one thatll last but not be too expensive.I have done all kinds of motor work and rebuilt manual's before.Any help would be awesome.

Sounds like it's a bit worn out. You can try rebuilding it yourself, but if you're only getting 13mpg from a stock engine, you'd be best to buy a new one or letting a pro take care of it. Jeg's and Summit have complete trannies for decent prices.

Sounds like she's pretty tired, but try adjusting the bands before you spend the moolah to get her overhauled.
