Default RE: Engine Mounts

I got to reply to this one. About two years ago I went thru this with a friend's 67 Mustang. The bottom line it that 1967 is an odd year for small block engine mounts. Only 67 mounts will fit. There are no options. To explain; late 66 and 68 to 70 small block mounts are about the same. Early 66 are the same as 64 1/2 and 65. There are three major components you need to be aware of: the insulator, the brackets and the car's frame. The holes in the frame are located in a different place for 1967. As a result of this, the brackets and the insulators are made with a different angle to compensate for this. I don't care what the major parts suppliers claim, the insulators are not universal and are not interchangable for 1967. If you change the brackets from a 68 to match the insulators, the mounting holes in the frame will not line up. There is no simple solution, but there are difficult ones. Fine a good pair of used 67 insulators is one. Get a pair of new 68 brackets and drill new alignment holes is another. We used the former.
In my research, I measured a set of 68 brackets and insulators for small blocks. I did not look into six cylinder or 390 engine mounts but I think that Ford used two different sets of templates to locate holes in the frame, one for small block and one for the rest.

You are correct sir. Thank you for your input. You 67 guys should know this difference in not only the 67 year model, but the difference in the 67-68 year models.

Just read an article in an old m/monthly on this problem. They recommended to do a complete to the other styles. if you are interested I could get an issue # for you.

I did not pay that close of attention to the article and I have the mag at work. I could have an answer for you tomorrow evening if that is not to late for you. They gave a pretty good breakdown on the problem. It is very similar to the post a couple ahead of me...66gtkfb

We ordered these from Mustangs Unlimited:

I have them in my garage, they look like a quality product. I have test fit the brackets to their respective parts and the fit is perfect, but like I said, I have not installed them yet so I cant comment on the final fit, although it looks like a simple and easy process, that allows for a little adjustability.
Those are some fine mounts and I'm sure you'll like them as much as I. When I bought my JBA headers they required the useof '66 and up mounts on my '65 for clearance issues (the '66 mounts set the engine up about an inch higher than the '65s). After ordering and receiving factory reproduction mounts and insulators for about $130, I noticed the Ron Morris mounts for a touch under $200 so I ordered them and returned the others.

The Ron Morris mounts kick butt! The side to side as well as fore aft adjustability is fantastic to move things just right to clear headers. Also, the mounts are through bolted (i.e. you don't have to run a chain around your driver's side mount on a high powered engine). As far as I can tell, the poly mounts don't seem to be transmitting any more vibes than the stock ones, though I'd suspect poly transmission mounts on a manual may be more noticeable.

No, the mounts aren't cheap, but then again, they're not spit out in some factory in China either.

I have a weakness for cool car stuff, I was going down the list of motor mount on Mustangs Unlimited, trying to pick out the stockstuff that would work together, got to the bottom of the last page and said to myself "those are the ones we need". Yea I needed them, so that is what we got.

When they were delivered I was very happy with the the quality of the product, it's ease of installation, and the clean look of the product as a whole.

Sometimes it is still possible to get what you pay for.

I am glad that someone else on the forum has bought this product besides me, I was begining to feel like a spoiled bratt!
