65 GT
yep!
I would want to be armed with a GT expert to inspect the car before I bought one. Apparently there was such a wait list for them in 65/66that buyers were being offered GT packages fitted from the dealership...almost a GT (looked like one anyway) and maybe worth more than a standard car if you have a paperwork trail all the way back.

could be
how original is it?
can you trace back the ownership? You'd pretty much need the dealer invoice to confirm it.
What the car was from the factory will be in the VIN code and door data plate if still original. The build sheet was usually taped to the top outside of the glove compartment...that is gold if still there. And the engine, if original will have some id tags attached near the water pump. my car had none of the above, so tracing it back to what it started life as proved impossible but i learnt a lot trying to find out.
I have a couple of good mustang books and use Google a lot! There are unlimited resources for mustang info ncluding this forum. Lots of clued up guys here.

Not much of anything left as far as tags go. I'll check the glove box and maybe get lucky? It has original pony interior, power top and 4 speed,so still a really cool car. I was thinking of making it a black on red GT vert. How do you track? Through the DMV I guess?
I tried that for my car through the p/o then importer then founddetails ofa p/oin the states before it came out here. He was 21 when he owned it in 1995 and I couldnt get a current address to see if he had any further details. Judging by what he'd done to the car, i suspect he wasnt a record keeping kinda guy!
Anyway, apparently you used to be able to pay a fee in California to get a list of p/o's but now with privacy laws etc it is no longer possible. You could check this out further where you live. I cant see a reason why you couldnt send a letter out for a fee where the DMV dont actually give out details to you but forward your call for information to previous owners...then again that would mean someone at the DMV would actually have to help you!!! If they are anything like our equivalent government department, that aint gunna happen!!!
I'd just built it up to what you want it to be and get a repro door tag made to match what you have done.

Back in 1965, you could order just about any options you desired, and that included GT options. However, the GT 350 Shelby cars only came with A or K code engines.
