I hate sitting around when I finally have nice weather to be doing stuff on the car <--- welcome to my world.
am waiting as well ....
i'd say if it doesn't bulge tomorrow then order a new distri and get your big hammer out ...
the distri would be no worry, but you'd hate to see the gears going where it's sitting on. So you have to be really careful with what your doing.
Any chance of getting a chisel between distri and block ?
but yes I can understand you. I'd go mad as well.
I'm about to bleed my brakes but am afraid to do so as I might just break the nipple screw ....
have to get bl00dy imperial tools .....

I hit it with map gas a few times and bent a pry bar trying to get it out. I'd get a new HEI Distributor but I just put the Pertronix Ignitor II in it over the winter. Those bleed nipples are pretty flimsy,I'd hit'em with PB Blaster and give it a few minutes to work in.

yah will PB blast them before I give that a try.
I cannot believe that you put the thing in the winter and it doesn't get out.
Does the engine run ????

I only put the Pertronix in it. The distributor probably hasn't been out in 40 years.

OK. I need to change the subject to DISTRIBUTOR BROKEN. I broke theround housing unit the cap goes on with the biggest channel locks I had while trying to get the thing to turn. On a good note, it budged, a little. On a bad note, it is still very much stuck. Once I get my Pertronix Ingitor II out of it I am going to town on that thing. I guess I'll just go buy a remanufactured unit to use with my Ignitor and Flame Thrower. If I didn't just buy them I would purchase a HEI. Oh well. Now the fun part of changing that whole unit. Guess it's time to start doing somemore reading.

Since you broke it, get a slide hammer and yank it out.

Could it be that the gear roll pin is sticking out just enough to stop the distributor from coming up? The gear at the bottom of the distributor is held in place with a roll pin I believe?? Just a thought.

good thought, but no matter what happend down there it should still turn to adjust ignition timing or do I have that wrong ?
If that's the case maybe you can turn the distri with a chisel like you do with a rusted nut. hard to explain without a picture.

basically there is a round base on the distri just above the block. the base that keeps the distri from going in further.
Put a chisel on this base (don't hit block) and hold the chisel vertical. So that the pointy side is vertical. The chisel in a 45 degree angle away from the center of the distributor (Like in the letter Q). and then hait the chisel with hammer. You'll make a groove this way into the distri and when you're lucky it might turn......
If you're getting it to turn you might be lucky to get it out. But for sure if the sucker won't turn you might as well forget about getting it out ....

very weird problem though.

I did somemore research on line about this prob and it appears it's not that rare. One fellow even said he had to pull his out with an engine lift. Either way it's a big PITA. Since I broke it I am not worried about being gental so it's time for all out war on this sucker. I just have to make sure I find TDC on the compression stroke of cylinder #1 and mark it first, then it's a full on blitzkrieg. (within reason of corse)
